“You’ve got this because Jesus Christ has got “You’ve got this because Jesus Christ has got you! … ‘O youth of the noble birthright, carry on, carry on, carry on!’ [Hymns, no. 255] I testify that you are loved—and you are trusted—today, in 20 years, and forever. Don’t sell your birthright for a mess of pottage. Don’t trade everything for nothing. Don’t let the world change you when you were born to change the world.” —Brother @BradRWilcox (Oct. 2024, general conference)

Occasionally, a mother sheep will give birth to a Occasionally, a mother sheep will give birth to a lamb and reject it, refusing to let it nurse. This not only sets the lamb on a path toward starvation but also shatters its spirit. These lambs are called “bummer lambs”—abandoned, isolated, and seemingly forgotten.

Shepherds keep a watchful eye for bummer lambs. A compassionate shepherd, spotting a bummer lamb, holds it close to their heart so it can become familiar with its heartbeat and brings it into the warmth of his home. The lamb learns the sound of the Shepard’s voice and learns to trust him.

When the lamb is strong enough to be put back with the sheep, there is a new nobility to the lamb. It no longer feels rejected. It has been singled out by the shepherd. And when the shepherd calls, the bummer lambs are always the first to run to him because they know his voice.

The Savior is our Good Shepherd and wants to bring us home. “The good shepherd doth call you; yea, and in his own name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ” (Alma 5:38). He loves you and wants you to follow Him.

Have you ever felt like a bummer lamb? As we come to Him for healing, we can learn the sound of His voice. How do you hear His voice calling you?

“You were sent to earth now because God knew you “You were sent to earth now because God knew you could be strong and courageous. And God needs strong and courageous sons and daughters on earth now.

“You have not been sent here to fail. You have been sent to earth to succeed—and to help others succeed. As you follow Jesus Christ, you will have all the strength and courage you need to face opposition in this hazardous world. I promise you that. …

“If perhaps you feel you have strayed off the covenant path too far or too long, let me assure you that is not true. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, your future can be bright, even brilliant. Speak with your parents and your bishop or branch president. They will help you to get on the path of progress once again. Please come back to the joy and safety of the covenant path. We need you with us.

“Your ultimate success will come as you yoke yourself to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know that life without God is a life filled with fear. I also know that life with God is a life filled with peace, joy, and power. Resolve to live your life with God.” —President Russell M. Nelson (“Connect to Christ’s Power” [digital-only article], For the Strength of Youth, June 2024, Gospel Library)
